Essay

The dissertation deals with the problems concerning differentiated approach to surgical and complex treatment of metastatic brain tumors depending upon localization and a number of metastases, patients' initial state, presence of extracranial tumor before the surgery. The computer-aided statistical analysis of 164 cases was carried out to establish major prognostically favourable or unfavourable factors defining both the surgical risks and follow up results according to quality and duration of patients' postoperative life. As distinct from the studies available, it was for the first time that through calculation of main prognostic groups the analysis of how the combination of differently significant prognostic factors influence remote prognosis was performed. The algorithm worked out for differentiated treatment of metastatic brain tumors made it possible to reduce postoperative mortality over the length of seven years from 9,7 to 2,9% and improve the follow up results.
