Essay

The object of study: implication of astrocyte intermediate filament protein in glial response on exogenous CNS injury. The aim of study: analysis of polypeptide composition and content of filament and soluble forms of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) of the rat brain under influence of Al3+ ions, irradiation and CNS-protective treatment. Methods: photocolorimetric, spectrophotometric, electrophoretic, chromatographical, immunochemical; testing of animals by "open field". Al3+ ions and irradiation produced changes in quantitative ratio between soluble and filamentous GFAP polypeptides. It has been shown first that Al3+ ions induce reconstruction of astrocyte intermediate filaments by means of limited proteolysis of their protein. Pyracetam and vitamin E decrease level of astrocyte reactivity under influence of irradiation and Al3+ ions seen by prevention of GFAP degradation and accumulation. The spheres of application: scientific institutions of medical and biological type, delivering special disciplines.
