Essay

The complex investigation results of mechanism of the photoluminescence in visible range of spectrum at room temperature in films with Si quantum dots formed by pulsed laser deposition are presented. It was set that the structural model of photoluminescent films represents the nanocomposite two-phase system: the low-dimensional Sі nanocrystals in SіO2 matrix. It was shown that the nature of visible photoluminescence in Si quantum dots was determined by effects of the dimensional quantization radiative annihilation of excitons. Nano-/monosilicon heterojunctions with photosensitive and electroluminescent properties have been obtained. The method to form electron emitters of cold cathodes on a basis nanostructured silicon has been offered.
