Essay

The thesis is dedicated to investigating one-electron optical properties of small metal clusters with metal shell (contribution of the shell dominates in the whole cluster optical properties) - nanoshells and metal nanotubes. For thin metal shell in the shape of sphere, cylinder and prolonged rotation ellipsoid were first found electron wavefunction, its energy and wavenumber spectrum and matrix elements of corresponding optical transitions. Classical (quantum effects were not considered) optical conductivity of metal shells of three above-mentioned geometries was first found. Essential dependence of optical properties from incident light polarization (for non-symmetric shells) and shell shape was established. Addends for classical optical conductivity that considers quantum effects (electron spectrum discreteness) for three above-mentioned shell geometries were first found. Oscillating nature of dependence of these addends from incident light frequency is established. Generalization of used for threesmall shell geometries schemes for calculation of the optical conductivity is performed. This scheme can also be used for elliptic cylinder shell and flattened rotation ellipsoid shell.
