Levshyn O. Structural and functional peculiarities and diagnostics of degenerative diseases of lumbar spine in people at the age over 50 years

Object of investigation: degenerative diseases of the lumbar spine. Purpose of investigation: improvement of diagnostics of degenerative disease of the lumbar spine in people at the age over 50 on the bases of studying their structural and metabolic peculiarities, development of the classification and diagnostic algoritm. Methods of investigation: roentgenographie , roentgenometric, roentgen-contrast (discography, epidurography, myelography), magnetoresonance and spiral computer tomography, morphologic, histologic, biochemical, biomechanic, statistical ones. For the first time the structure of degenerative diseases of the lumbar spine in people at the age over 50: incidence of different variants of degeneratine diseases of the spine (DDS) followed by functional disorders is determined. New information about degenerative scoliosis in people at the age over 50 and new data about clinical and roentgenologic characteristics of this variant of DDS are obtained. On the grounds of biochemical investigation ofbiological liquids it is found that for the patients with DDS at the age over 50 changes in concentration of carbohydrate - protein compreces and proteins of acute phase – evidence of inflammatory reaction as well as fractions of glycosaminoglicans – bases components of the connective tissue proving the growth of the degenerative processes in the spinal tissues are manifested. On the bases of the results obtained classification and algorytm of diagnosing degenerative diseases of the lumbar spine in people at the age over 50 in worked out. The results of the investigation will contribute to formation of true picture as for the peculiarities and structure of degenerative spinal disease in people at the age over 50 in clinicists and scientists. Classification of degenerative diseases of the lumbar spine applied in Sytenko spine and joint Pathology Institute when making a diagnosis or determinate tachis of treatment provides a possibility to choose an optional programs of treatment. New methods of epidus roegraphy and method of indirect evaluation of the locomotorium function as well as algorithm of diagnostic degenerative diseases of the spine in people at the age over 50 make it possible to substautial quality of diagnostics, to decrease cost of diagnostic program and considerably shorten the period of its fulfilment. The results of the investigation can be utilized as a bases for further studies in the sphere of vertebrology.
