It is introduced a class of separating functions, which are naturally generalize numeric function of Nazarova - Roiter, which has a number of applications in the theory of matrix problems. Properties of these functions, their applications to the theory of locally scalar representations of graphs and *-algebras, spectral graph theory and for algebras generated by relations are studied.
