Pidgorna L. Folkloristic activities of Mykola Kostomarov (methodological aspect)

The thesis is devoted to integral study of methodological basis of M. Kostomarov's folkloristic activities. Romantic, cultural-historical, mythological and genealogical conceptions of the scientist. The process of establishment of the conceptual paradigm of Romanticism, development and application of the latter in the folkloristic heritage of M. Kostomarov is traced; The scientific and methodological principles of collecting and recording the folklore works in the scientist's interpretation are grounded and summarized; The process of formation of Ukrainian cultural and historical school on the positivism basis and the share, role and importance of M. Kostomarov in the elaboration of it's methodological principles; The scientific value and novelty of the scientist's genealogical conception in folklore is shown as well. The role and importance of the scientist in strengthening these concepts in Ukrainian folkloristics and his contribution into the World folkloristics is explicated. The attention is also paid to the fact that M. Kostomarov, unlike many of his contemporaries, didn't renounce the former methodological principles with the acquisition of the new ones, and his choice of the appropriate approach was fully dependent on the material of research.
