Essay

The thesis is aimed at studying prevalence and medico-social consequences of proximal femoral fractures of the elderly people, problems of prognostication and drug rehabilitation of this particular contingent. The research work studies structural and functional status of bone tissue as well as risk factors for osteoporotic proximal hip fractures. The best treatment mode of medial fractures proved to be hip replacement, the lateral fractures were best repaired by osteosynthesis and skeletal fraction. However, skeletal fraction often caused complications increasing the risk of mortality. Proximal hip fractures occurred in the presence of evident structural and functional disorders of bone tissue: in patients with fractures, Stiffness index was reduced as compared with patients without fractures - by 23.9% in men and by 18.2% in women. All patients with proximal hip fractures had osteopenia and osteoporosis evidenced by ultrasound densitometry
