Essay

Experimental study and simulation of the influence of additional reagents (manganese(II) ion, dioxygen), stirring rate, and flow rate on various oscillating regimes in the Belousov-Zhabotinsky (BZ) reaction catalyzed by ferroin were performed. Effect of additional reagents, stirring rate, and flow rate on the BZ reaction catalyzed by ferroin is described by the general kinetic scheme. The main advantage of this kinetic scheme is using realistic chemical reactions with experimentally measured values of rate constants of the BZ reaction catalyzed by ferroin. Experimental studies demonstrated the possibility to obtain macroscopically structured polyacrylamide in the BZ reaction catalyzed by ferroin. It has been shown that formation of macroscopically structured compounds are governed by chemical waves and patterns formed in the BZ reaction.
