Essay

The dissertation studies petro-magnetic regularities in coal deposits of the Donbass region and the perspectives of well-log measurements of magnetic susceptibility in coal exploration. There has been discovered the distinct subdivision of coal deposits into separate lithotypes according to their magnetic susceptibility. It has also been proved that the main source of magnetism in the Donbass coal deposits is the thinly spread magnetite. Epigenetic transformations of the solids in the coal layer practically do not affect their magnetic susceptibility. The change in the magnetic susceptibility of the Donbass coal deposits is due mainly to genetic factors: the mineralogical composition of the fragmental materials that were transported into the area, as well as the speed and the distance of that transportation. There has been formulated the principal methodological approach in the study of coal deposits according to their magnetic susceptibility. The approach envisages focusing on petro-magnetic solids thatwere formed in the geological object under the influence of one distributive province. Within the limits of such petro-magnetic solids geological tasks will be expressly solved by means of geophysical methods with a high degree of veracity.
