Essay

The thesis presents the results of detail research according to up-to-date methods of the substantial composition, space localization, and thickness of Late Pleistocene - Holocene of shelf sediments, continental slope and abutting surface to deep-sea segment on the north-west of the Black Sea. Meantime the research the lithofacies of Neoeuxinian, Lower Chernomorian, Upper Chernomorian sediments are singled out and are shown in corresponding stratigraphic conception schemes. To reconstitute what had been happening to sediments, how and when, we took the composition, the spread of stratum, spatio-temporal superposition of the lithofacies and division of their thickness. We defined that the accumulation of Neoeuxinian sediments had taken place in the natural conditions of regressive basin. The previous sediments were eroded intensively and deposited in the deep-water part of the sea afterwards, the fans is a representative of it. In Holocene period the transgression of Black Sea influenced a lot on the sediments accumulation. The transgression was accompanied by regressive phases, sea-level changes, and changes in salinity, periods of time during which different range terrigenous material were coming in. The leading role in formation and space localization of two geochemical associations of elements in Late Pleistocene - Holocene sediments belongs to biogenic and hydrodynamic factors. Key-words: The Black Sea, shelf, continental slope, deep-water cavity, Late Pleistocene, Holocene, Neoeuxinian horizon, Chernomorian horizon, bottom deposit, lithofacies, sedimentation.
