Essay

The dissertation is dedicated to the problem of improvement of diagnostics and surgical treatment of brainstem tumors in children. Histologically confirmed 57 out of 216 tumors. The features of microtopography and clinical manifestations of tumors, diagnostic value of CT and MRI are analysed. Is specified on more favorable course of disease after subtotal tumors removal in comparison with partial. Is shown the increase of aid quality to these children in Institute in 1996-2005 yrs in comparison with 1986-1995 yrs: the surgical activity on tumors removal in 3 times (p<0,01) is increased, is reduced general postoperative lethality in 4 times (p<0,01). The indications and contraindications to surgical treatment of children with these tumors are developed.
