Essay

The cultures of bacteria, which actively perform the dissimilatory reduction of sulfates, are isolated from Yavoriv sulfur deposit wells.Their number in the well of sulfur career is established to ten thousands times exceed their number in the lakes of Shatsk national park and preserve "Roztochcha". The isolated bacteria are identified as Desulfovibrio desulfuricans. The optimal conditions for the growth of D. desulfuricans Ya-11 are established. The dynamics of sulfates usage and their transformation to hydrogen sulfide by isolated cultures is investigated. The D. desulfuricans Ya-11 APS-reductase activity is investigated. Hydrogen sulfide is toxic for D. desulfuricans and S. cerevisiae, and in S. typhimurium and S. cerevisiae it causes the mutations.
