Essay

The spatial non-linear and strained cable-stayed systems with slipping cables, operating under considerable displacements and deformations have been analyzed. It is proposed the design scheme and the main unknowns of the displacement method are selected as well as the equilibrium equations are derived, proceeding from conditions of minimum potential energy. The method and algorithm for solution of the obtained system of equations has been worked out. The cable systems composed of two bundles of slipping cables with prescribed tensions were under consideration separately. It was displayed that such nets are featured by some extreme properties. On the basis of these ideas it was suggested and elaborated the slippery net method for determination of initial shape of cable nets and membrane roof systems.
