Essay

In the study based on the personal-situational approach, the factors and tools are elicited that are involved in self-presentation process in the context of interaction. The taxonomy of self-presentations is proposed, underlying to which is the classification of means for positive image forming, previously acquired in the individual's personal experience. Experimental results are presented, indicative of the impact that the type of self-presentation (personality-based, flexible, or exposing) may have on the individual's choice of behavioural strategies (cognitive, adaptive, or self-protective) in the wider context of interaction. The evidence was found that correlation exists between the type of self-presentation and the way the individual, as a subject of self-actualization, shapes his self-determination trend in his real, current or presented identity. The analysis of psychological dissimilarities regarding self-presentation observed in groups of men and women enabled the author to elicit the catalogof personal determinants specifically affecting the process of self-presentation in men and women. The author proves that specific management of the process of personality-based self-presentation mastering promotes consolidating of psychological formations, which are both the mechanism of and the tool for creating positive self-image of the individual.
