Gritsenko P. Diagnostics and prognosis of clinical course of squamous cell carcinoma of the larynx: immunomorphological aspects.

The thesis is dedicated to study of expression of molecular markers in squamous cell carcinomas of the larynx in order to improve the diagnostics and to predict clinical course of the disease. Expression of cytokeratins, oncoproteins p53 and bcl-2, proliferation index (basing on Ki-67 expression) were studied in tumors of different grade in patients with presence and absence of metastases, recurrent tumor, and different responses to chemoradiotherapy. Each marker’s value in diagnostics and prognosis was studied. Particular immunophenotypes which correspond with tumors of certain grade and high risk of metastasis development (recurrence, possible sensitivity for chemo- and radiotherapy) were established for each tumor. A panel of markers that can be utilized to specify histological grade, to predict the possibility of metastases development within the first year after radical treatment, to predict the response to chemo- and radiotreatment was suggested.
