Dissertation is devoted one of the issue of the day in modern Ukrainian specialist in folklore to the question of the functional loading and pragmatic nature of the Ukrainian song chronicle, its basic traits. In work given it a shot synthetic comprehension of song-chronicle as to the genie of Ukrainian folklore in his complete plenitude, attention is spared to clarification and finding out of such term, as a "song-chronicle". The own seeing of specific of genre is offered, in particular his poetics, and also a process is explored: transformation of the real fact is in the subject of chronicle song. In the first time the paradigm of tragic and until now debatable problem is analyzed in research: first - author - author - interpretation - collective author. In work present ground retrospective view of stars of texts of folklores, where songs-chronicles entered from Vatslava from Oleska (1833), О. Коlberga (1883) to academic edition (1972), and also study of theoretical generalizations of scientists-specialists in folk-lore, which had publications through this question (I. Sreznevskiy, O. Kolberg, M. Dragomanov, I. Franco, V. Gnatyuk, F. Kolessa and other).
