Essay

Based on a combination of modern and conventional technology of acquiring, processing, and interpreting seismic data, it has been obtained more depth and detailed structure of the sedimentary cover of the Dnieper-Donets Depression (DDD) compared with previous studies. More accurate information has supported a notion of multi-stage and post sedimentary evolution of salt stocks and formation of overhangs in the Lower Carboniferous deposits. There have been determined the evolutionary stages of tectonic distortions and their possible reactivations that has made it possible to clarify major stages of tectonic activity within the DDD. Using a correlation chart of the tectonic distortions and the evolution of the major carboniferous features, a relationship has been found between anticlinal features and the peculiarities of the basement structure and fault pattern. Real seismic reflecting horizons have been revealed on the great depths of the DDD in the crystalline basement. The results are of paramount importance for developing an effective strategy of researching for oil and gas end are recommended for placing exploration boreholes.
