Essay

The thesis is devoted to the study of molecular mechanisms of glycolysis regulation on the level of PFKFB expression in different organs of mice and rats in hypoxia and diabetes mellitus. It was shown that the expression of PFKFB-3 mRNA and its alternative splice variants increased in different mouse organs under hypoxia. Diverse changes of the expression of PFKFB-3 mRNA and its splice variants were observed in different rat organs in diabetes. Several new alternative splice variants of PFKFB were identified and sequenced. New variant of PFKFB-1 mRNA was identified in rat retina. It does not have a serine residue responsible for negative regulation of 6-phosphofructo-2-kinase activity. Unique alternative splice variant of rat PFKFB-4 was identified in the brain. Its expression was detected in the brain of diabetic animals only.
