Essay

Dissertation is devoted to the problem of diagnostics and surgical treatment of patients with a torsion dystonia (TD) and mixed forms of hyperkinesias (MFH). The research is based on supervision and treatment of 108 patients with torsion dystonia and mixed forms of hyperkinesias that were treated in clinics of SI "Institute of neurosurgery named after acad. A.P. Romodanov of Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine" and KNMU during 1991-2006. 55 (50,93%) men and 53 (49,07%) women were treated using stereotactic method. Patients' average age was 34,72±1,3 years. 149 stereotactic operations and 34 interventions were performed on peripheral nerves and muscles. 63 (58,33%) patients needed one neurosurgical operation and 45 (41,67%) - required repeated intervention. 149 stereotactic operations were performed: 123 (82,55%) - destructive (cryodestruction) and 22 (14,76%) - nondestructive (electrostimulation P.m.).
