Essay

The purpose of the thesis is to study the preconditions and ways of intensification of international contacts of Russian historians in the second half of the 19th and at the beginning of the 20th centuries. The author presents the formation of historical science as a professional discipline in the West-European countries and in the Russian empire from a comparative perspective. She thoroughly analyzes the influence of the university reforms in Russia on the stuffing of university departments of historic-philological faculties (by associate professors and professors), as well as on the quality of historical education and diversification of the relevant research sphere. In this thesis the importance of scientific foreign trips in the development of cooperation between Russian and foreign historians is high-lighted. The basic forms of international scientific collaboration of Russian historians, their participation in the specialized international congresses in particular, are also defined.
