In the thesis Ukrainian tales about animals and tales from Indian “Panchatantra” are studied. Methods of comparative study of folklore are analized. Genre peculiarities and structure of “Panchatantra” are traced. Ukrainian tails specific features are studied. Typology of the motives of “Panchatantra” and Ukrainian tales about animals is identified. Comparative structural-semantic analisis of the “Panchatantra” and Ukrainian animal tails’ plots is carried out. As a result of conducted investigation peculiarities of compared cultures are identified. Tales with the same motives and with the same plots are detected. Effectiveness of the comparative structural-semantic method of analysis is proved. Schematic organization of the analyses in the form of table is proposed.
