Essay

The main purpose of the thesis is to analyze the essential characteristics of U. S. policy regarding the UN in the field of international security after the end of cold war. Using the wide range of new documents, the author has analyzed Washington's policy toward UN peacekeeping, fighting international terrorism and nonproliferation of the weapon of mass destruction (WMD). The basic aspects of the USA's policy at the beginning of 1990's and its impact on relations between the UN and Washington are studied. The role of the UN in the maintenance of international security is analyzed. Improvement of international legal basis of the UN in counteract to the new threats of international security after the events of September 11, 2001 is shown. Evolution, essence and factors of influence of USA's policy toward UN reform, as one of the main condition to improve its effectiveness and active cooperation with USA are determined.
