Dissertation is dedicated to investigation of thermal processes in a top part of casting; development of composition for refractory molding mixture on the basis of Pridneprovsk TEP carrying array-ash with more effective thermo-physical proper-ties for production of bloating top insert; computer modeling of process for casting solidification with floating top insert and ascertainment of zone formation for shrinkage defects and floating top insert effect upon cast metal quality. Heat and cool-ing temperatures of floating top insert in the melt pouring proc-ess, its coming to the surface and ingot solidification of a mass 2700 kg have been established by means of experimental tem-perature dimensions. Temperature fields concerning height and floating top insert radius were plotted. Computer modeling of heat thermal processes for floating top insert that accumulates the heat of pouring meet overheating under uphill feeling was carried out. After coming to the sur-face insert provides directional solicitation of metal in casting and effective heat insulation of riser from surroundings. Reduc-tion of non-metallic inclusions on height and ingot radius, mid-dle size of grain in axial and external surface of ingot in com-parison with serial one was installed. Developed technology provides removal of axial porosity, reduction of height occur-rence for concentrated shrinkage cavity and cut in consumption.
