Essay

Dissertation is an investigation of main physical properties of water solution of lyotropic chromonic liquid crystals (LCLC). Optical charaterization of solutions is given and dependencies of optical properties on concentration of LCLC material were obtained. Solutions of separate molecules, aggregates, and mesophase of alongated aggregates were taken into acount. Conformational transformation of mocules of disodium chromoglycate upon aggregation was shown. It is shown that aggregation is isodesmic process. Two methods of orientation of of LCLC nematic phase are presented. Dispersion of birefrigence, absorption anisotropy and scalar order parameter were obtained. Temperature dependencies of denoted properties presented. Influence of ionic and polymer additives on mesophase of LCLC were investigated. It is shown increase of temperature rage of biphasic region upon salt additives. It is also shown tha ionic additives may drasticaly increase teperature transition from nematic to biphasic state and from biphasic to isotropic state. Polymer Additives leads to phase separation of homogenius LCLC solution.
