Essay

Zadvernyuk H. P. Interaction of layered silicates with polyacrylamides and nonpolar hydrocarbons (by the example of Cherkassy deposit clays). - Manuscript. Thesis for a scientific degree of the candidate of geological science in speciality 04.00.20 - mineralogy, crystallography. - M. P. Semenenko Institute of Geochemistry, Mineralogy and Ore Formation of the National Academy of Science of Ukraine. - Kyiv, 2009. The theoretical explanation of nature of interaction of layered silicates with polyacrylamides and nonpolar hydrocarbons is given in the paper. New solution of the problem of increase in hydrosorption properties of Cherkassy deposit bentonites is proposed, i.e. modification of bentonites with polyacrylamides or nonpolar hydrocarbons. Bentonites modified with polyacrylamides are considered to be appropriate for building of waterproofing barriers. Natural layered silicates can be used for destruction of oil products films on water surfaces. The amount of hydrocarbons adsorbed by clays is determined to rise with increase in size crystallites. It is shown that in the system of quality-prize Cherkassy deposit clays are perspective for destruction of oil products films on water surfaces. It is found out for the first time that adsorption of hydrocarbons by layered silicates leads to rise in their water uptake and swelling. Key words: clays minerals, bentonite, montmorillonite, palygorskite, kaolin, polyacrylamide, nonpolar hydrocarbons, adsorption, water uptake, water retention.
