Essay

Thesis is devoted to investigation of special features of nanocarbon synthesis, its heat stability and hydrogen capacity. The model of sputtering and evaporation of graphite anode as well as of carbon nanostructures formation on cathode and in gaseous phase at the arc discharge between graphite electrodes in the inert atmosphere has been proposed. The investigation techniques of simultaneous production of graphite products by arc evaporation at the surface of several substrates from different metals have been developed. The elaborated new construction of experimental reactor makes possible to fulfill synthesis of nanostructured carbon materials in the equal thermodynamic conditions on the nine metal substrates at the same time. The influence of chemical composition of the metallic wall of reactor on the morphology and structure of arc synthesis products has been demonstrated. It has been established that metal in the system can manifests itself both as catalyst and inhibitor of formation of one or another structure. As demonstrated for the first time, some metals are the catalysts of destruction processes of fullerene molecules. The nanostructures formed on the cathode have been studied. An investigation of the hydrogen sorption properties and determination of hydrogen capacity of fullerene- and graphite-like products of arc synthesis have been undertaken in this thesis.
