Essay

The dissertation is one of the first comprehensive historical research of the British Empire transformation into the Commonwealth in 1931-1947. There has been considered an influence of the historical, economic, military, social and political phenomena and mechanisms on interrelations evolution between Great Britain and the Commonwealth member-states in the fixed period. There has been analysed the historical significance of a number of the destined state papers, such as the 1931 Westminster Statute, the 1947 Indian Bill of Independence. Due to its steady and balanced policy Great Britain managed to preserve dominions withing the Empire as well as unite them into the new establishment built on more democratic principles. The 1931 Westminster Statute symbolised the new stage of transformation, the internal imperial transition to the new level, emphasizing growth of the dominions importance and their desire to obtain the equality with government of the parent state.
