Essay

The objects are the long horn beetles entomocomplexes (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) in the forest ecosystems. The current Thesis is focused on studying the ecological features of structural organization of the long horn beetle entomocomplexes in the forest ecosystems on the north-eastern macroslope of the Ukrainian Carpathians. The methods are standard entomological methodic, mathematical statistic. The study was conducted during the years of 2000-2008 using five forest ecosystems that represented the most abundant forests of the region. These included the beech forests (hornbeam-beech forests, oak-hornbeam-beech forests), the fir forests (oak-beech-fir forests, spruce-beech-fir forests), and the spruce forests (beech-fir-spruce forests). The species, as well as the taxonomic, trophic, zoogeographic, and dominant structures of the long horn beetle entomocomplexes were identified. The sustainable forestry, the establishment of tree plantations, and the introduction of the new tree species and varieties requires the knowledge of the local areals of potential forest pests that belong to the long horn beetle genera, such as Monochamus, Acanthocinus, Callidium, Hylotrupes, Xylotrechus, Mesosa etc. This allows prevention of pest outbreaks, which may lead to a loss of forest. Application spheres are monitoring, nature protection activity and training courses.
