The thesis is devoted to research of psychological characteristics of self-identity of individuals who suffered vision loss in adulthood and determinants influencing development of their identity. The work describes approaches to structuring of the personal self-identity and presents an integrated structure of self-consciousness and its following components - cognitive, emotional, self-esteem and regulatory. Within proposed structure there was built an experimental study of peculiar features in self-identity of individuals with acquired vision loss in adulthood. The thesis presents results of the experiment, indicating specifics in mental processes related to self-identity, self-knowledge self-awareness, self-esteem and self-attitude due to acquired blindness in adulthood. Possible psychological interference on self-identity of individuals with acquired vision loss in adulthood is described in the third section.
