The obtained data have shown that there was an increase in glutathione peroxidase and glutathione transferase activities and in NADP-dependent dehydrogenases activity in postmitochondrial fraction of hemispheres of brain in rats aged from 1,5 to 24 months. In the brain of 1,5-month old rats the level of glutathione pool reduction was significantly lower than in the animals of older age groups. Under the influence of 30-minute immobilization the state of glutathione pool changed, and the activity of the enzymes of its metabolism was modulated, which was manifested differently in the rats of different age groups. The differences in manifestation of appearing changes reflected a different contribution of reduced glutathione to the defence of brain from free radical damage under stress in the animals at different age.
