Koval I. Bio-ecological features of species of the Genus Rosa L. in connection with introduction in the Steppe of Pridneprov'ya

The thesis is devoted to the determination of bio-ecological features of the species of the Genus Rosa L. and the dog-roses resistance to conditions of the Pridneprov'ya Steppe. Phenological rhythms of different botany-geographical origin species, peculiarities of blossoming, and fruit bearing were investigated. The morphometric features of rosehips and seeds were also researched. The evaluation of morphologic structures at different stages of the beginning and end of the major cycle of system's development was given. An anatomical description of the researched plants and adaptation of their anatomic structure component to winter were provided. Drought-resistant and winter-resistant species were determined (which is critical for the Pridneprov'ya Steppe) based on the investigation of carbohydrate, osmotic-active agents' conservation, antioxidant activity, and steadiness of the pigmental complex. Drying changes of ascorbic acid in the rosehips were explored. An assessment of suitability of dog-roses for ornamental use was made as well. Recommendations for usage of perspective species of dog-roses in planting of greenery were developed. The materials of the thesis were introduced into the educational process.
