Essay

This dissertation is dedicated to the research of issues regarding Geraniaceae Juss. family, peculiarities of its geographical distribution, and biological, ecological, and coenotic peculiarities of its representatives spread in Ukraine The flora of Ukraine contains 34 species of the family Geraniaceae which belong to two genera, although the presence of Erodium hoefftianum and E. cyconoides in Ukraine is doubtful. The family is mainly represented with European and, to the less extant, species common to Europe and Western Asia; migrants are almost absent. The abundance of most species doesn't correlate with the continental climate, which causes domination of multi-zonal species; euoceanic species dominate on the oceanic-continental gradient scale. The studied species of the flora of Ukraine have been found to consist of roughly equal shares of terophytes and hemicryptophytes (45% and 50%, respectively). Most Geraniaceae have broad ecological amplitudes (hemieuritops) capable of spreading and migrating to the adjacent areas, which causes their dissipation in anthropogenically impacted areas. Of the 70 vegetation classes Geraniaceae have been found to occur in 22 classes in Ukraine. Of these, 13 classes belong to natural vegetation, 9 are of synanthropic origin.
