The battle of Мohach, to take place on September 29, 1526, was not only the defeat of Hungarian troops but also marked the collapse of Hungarian Kingdom. Its former parts had their own political development which depended on their belonging to certain state. The lands to join Habsburg Monarchy faced the problem of election of the new king. Since Slovak lands comprised sufficient part of this territory Presburg (Bratislava) became the new political center and Trnava became the new religious center. The author investigated the struggle for St.Istvan crown between Janos Szapolyai and Ferdinand Habsburg which were two challengers for Hungarian throne. The unrest lasted for more than decade (1526-1538 рр.) and had its consequences. The war split the inhabitants into two parties. It is worth to mention that the part of Slovak population supported Janos Szapolyay while part of Hungarian nobles provided its support to Ferdinand Habsburg, who did not change the old legislation in order to preserve their loyalty The characteristics of the main state governing structures and their activities are analyzed.
