Essay

The object of the research: students of Russian empire universities in the 19th – early 20th century as specific social-demographic and social-professional group. The dissertation purpose consists in carrying out a complete and complex analysis of student's subculture on the materials of Russian empire universities in the 19th – early 20th century. Principles and approaches of such directions of anthropologically focused historical science as history of daily life and cultural history are methodological basis of the research. In the paper the principles of microhistory and intellectual history are also used. Scientific novelty of the dissertation: the student's subculture of Russian empire universities in the 19th - early 20th century is investigated in complex for the first time in a domestic historiography; period of its formation in the basic lines and stages and further evolution, as well as factors which influenced the process are defined; it is proved that strengthening of student's radicalism at the end of the 19th - early 20th century became one of the factors why student's subculture hasn't found a constancy of characteristics. Practical value: аctual materials and scientific generalizations which are written in the dissertation, can be used in realization of further researches on history of students; for preparation of lectures and seminars as well as special courses on history of Russia and Ukraine, history of universities, education, sciences and cultures, and also working out the directions of youth policy. Sphere of use: higher educational institutions.
