Essay

The thesis presents the development of theoretical models of liquid crystal lenses with variable focal length. The mathematical models of liquid crystal lens with polymer network or dye are proposed. Two cases are studies: the models of lens with one-dimensional and two-dimensional inhomogeneity of polymer network. It is established that the focal length and aberrations of the liquid crystal lens can be controlled by the electric field. It is shown that the focal length of the liquid crystal lens is nonmonotonic function and the lateral and longitudinal aberrations of the lens with one-dimensional polymer network are inversely proportional to voltage.
