Essay

The thesis investigates the origin and peculiarities of development of a "women's century" on the materials of Russian historiography, tracing its origins and historical background. It is found that changing status of women in Russia in the scientific world is regarded as one of the driving forces of appearing the women - empresses on the political arena of the State. It is also found what was the role of Peter I, by Russian historians, in the transformation of the social role of the Russian woman and influence of these phenomena on the existence of "women's century". The investigation and the comparative analysis of the historiographic portraits of Russian women-rulers was performed displaying the mechanisms of getting the power and it was found what forms of political participation were left for them by the Russian historians. The main typical for Russian history stereotypes of the image of the women-rulers as well as the periods of their reigning were separately studied. It is stated that the description of the phenomenon of the "women's century" as the complex of all phenomena, unusual for the history of the examined country, has the complex character in Russian historiography, that made an effect on the institutionalization of this term in Russian science.
