Essay

In this thesis which is based on the field research, overviewed the scientific literature and the periodical press, analyzed the specific features of oral folk stories about the displacement in 1947 of Ukrainians to Poland in the second half of ХХ - beginning of the XXIst century. Geographically, the study covers the Lemkіvshchynа, Holmshchуnа and Pіdljashja, where the Ukrainian population lived from ancient times, and the north-western region of Poland, where the Ukrainians were resettled as the result of the action "Wisla" of 1947. The paper deals with the scientific literature about oral religious culture of Ukrainian minority in Poland, from 1950 until the present time. Also considered the theoretical aspects of the genre specificity of folk story, it analyzes the main definitive characteristics. Also the research compares features of the genre of oral narratives about the displacement in 1947 with other genres of oral prose, such as narration, legend, tale, fiction, fable, rumours, gossips, hearings, and it is overviewed such a phenomenon as memorat and fabulat. The thesis which is based on the verbal material of narratives shows the historical backgrounds and they are the main reasons of appearance of such texts. The carried out analysis of oral folk stories of Ukrainians-immigrants has allowed to classify narratives according to the thematic principle: about the displacement of Ukrainians in 1947 (with motives about action "Wisla" and adaptations of migrants to new life); about savings of national identity (with motives of savings of the Ukrainian language, orthodox or Greco-catholic believes, culture); about "small homeland". For the first time it is considered and analysed art peculiarities of oral narratives about the displacement (plot-composition structure, lexical resources and lexical features and tropes), it is considered theoretical aspects of representation of reality in oral prose of Ukrainians in Poland. The analysis of a considerable empirical material has allowed the author to highlight specific characteristics of oral narratives of Ukrainians-migrants, in particular, acknowledgement of that fact that the oral prose about displacement of 1947 has all signs which are peculiar to any folklore genre: variability, oral features, traditional character, and collectiveness. The basic characteristic feature of oral folk stories about displacement of 1947 is that they in comparison with other genres most precisely represent the surrounding validity. The tragic element is expressed by motives. They, on the one hand, gravitate to as much as possible exact transfer of the concrete facts, and with another - the tendency to generalization is traced this variety of actions. As result, we have the typical episodes connected with violent removal of Ukrainians to the west and north, the ban on religion and education in their native language.
