Essay

Catalytic systems on the base of oxides of V, Nb, Ta with supported Pt or Pd, formed at reduction with hydrogen, were examined in the heterogeneous-catalytic reactions of Н2, CO and CH4 oxidation by molecular oxygen. It is shown that the obtained catalytic systems substantially exceed the activity of pure V, Nb, Ta oxides in the reactions of small molecules oxidation and possess high activity as compared with Pt(Pd) catalysts supported on Al2O3 with the same content of the supported metals and close values of specific surface. It has been determined that increase of specific surface and catalytic activity of V, Nb, Ta oxides with supported Pt(Pd) is conditioned by changes in chemical and phase composition of near-surface layer of these catalysts at reduction.
