Essay

Thermodynamic analysis of the redox and acid-base reactions has been conducted in semiconductor-electrolyte systems which are the basis of the etching and passivation of the CdSb, CdTe і Hg3In2Te6 crystals. The qualitative characteristics (electrode potential, pH) have been found that determine the ranges of selective and stoichiometric dissolution of the used semiconductors and their surface oxidation and sulfidation. The possible ways of use of these characteristics are shown for modification of the surface of complex semiconductor compounds.
