Essay

The thesis is dedicated to research of molecular marker's expression in well-differentiated thyroid tumors for prognosis of further clinical course. In this study it has been analyzed expression of sodium-iodide symporter (NIS), thyroglobulin, galectin-3, TP53 as well as proliferation activity based on Ki-67 expression depending on the invasiveness and presence of metastases. In this regard, the prognostic values have been evaluated for each marker of biological properties. The immunophenotypes of thyroid cancers with high risk of tumor extension have been established. Thus, the combination of high index of TP53 expression (more than 15%), low intensity of TG expression, loss of NIS membrane staining and low intensity of intracellular NIS expression. Galectin-3 has been proved as diagnostic marker of thyroid malignancies originated from the follicular epithelium. The findings based on the immunohistochemical profile of investigated tumors allow to predict the clinical course of thyroid cancers. Hence, it is possible to select the patients which need more careful clinical observing and supervision, individualization of treatment as well as separation of patients which may get less invasive surgical methods.
