The thesis gave the study of the contacts of Byzantian population of the Crimea with the nomads of the North Black Sea region and Eastern Slavs in the late 5th and 10th centuries. The degree of scientific approach to the theme has been described and the source base for comprehensive layout of studied issues has been analysed. The basic aspects of the handicraft and commerce in Kherson and the peculiarities of its economical ties in the late 5th and 10th centuries have been studied. The thesis defines the policies of Byzantian emperors in terms of the Crimea areas.
