Essay

The dissertation is concerned with investigations of the low temperature radial thermal expansion of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) and the impurity effects on the thermal expansion of SWCNT. It has been shown experimentally that bundles of pure SWCNT have a negative thermal expansion coefficient at temperatures 2.1–5 K. The effects of gas impurities (Xe, N2, H2, 4He) on the low temperature thermal expansion of SWCNT bundles have been investigated.
