The dissertation is the first thorough study of the creative work by Isydor Pasichyns’kyi, who was a folklorist, writer, public figure and the active participant of the Ukrainian national life. It considers the main points of his life in the context of social, cultural and enlightenment movement in the Carpathian region, analyzes the state of folk studies in Halychyna in the second half of the 19th – early in the 20th century, identifies the main periods of these studies and lists individuals connected with the development of folk studies at that time.
