Essay

The dissertation is devoted to the integrated investigation of Russian-British rivalry in the Far East in 1891 - 1902. On the basis of wide circle of recourses the reasons for the beginning of the confrontation between Russia and Britain in the late XIX - early XX centuries are analyzed in the thesis; it is characterized the change in policy of the two powers regarding to the construction of the Great Siberian Railway (1891 - 1894), Sino-Japanese War (1894 - 1895), Boxer Outbreak in China (1899 - 1901). It is also shown the struggle of the Russian and British ruling circles concerning the implementation of the Far Eastern policy. In particular, it highlights the differences between R. Salisbury and J. Chamberlain in the UK and S. Witte and Nicholas II in Russia.
