Essay

The thesis work is dedicated to integrated study of historical process of establishment, development and functioning of Central European Initiative as international organization in 1989-2011. The work is based on the analysis of a wide range of sources including original official archival materials. This scientific research performance is founded on the comparative historical analysis, which seeks to reveal and note the historical peculiarities of a specific region position and development. In this particular case it is Central Europe. Genesis, organizational structure, functions and activities of Central European Initiative were explored in the work. Special priority was accorded to a historical analysis and regionalization criteria of Europe; detection of a “Central Europe” concept, Central European Initiative establishment in the historical retrospective, priority areas of its activity concerning regional cooperation; also, history of Ukraine cooperation within the frames of central European integration association. Thereby, the features of regional cooperation establishment in the modern period of Europe development through the example of two-tier cooperation between Ukraine and Central European Initiative (before June, 1996) and Ukraine within frames of Central European Initiative (since June, 1996 and up to present day).
