Essay

The thesis is dealing with the problem of establishing and development of the Common Foreign and Security Policy of the European Union at the time of the Balkan crisis at the end of the 20th - beginning of the 21st centuries. The research of this theme is meeting current needs of the society in resolving the problems of security and stability. This work is identifying the premises of the involvement of Ukraine in the restructuring of the European security system. A detailed and complex analysis of the common foreign and security policy of the European Union has been carried out based on the research of a large amount of documentary materials (historiographical works, publications, international and Ukrainian archive documents). A full and objective characterization and evaluation has been given to the European Union. A resources-based analysis helps to identify the objective reasons and the character of the development of the foreign policy area and security sphere of the EU according to the chronological frame of the research in the situation of the Balkan crisis in 1991-2004. The little-studied questions related to the creation of the EU Rapid Reaction Force and Peacekeeping during the Yugoslav crisis has been identified.
