Essay

National and cultural activity of Ukrainians in Poland (1947-1989) is investigated in this dissertation on the basis of processing a wide circle of sources and literature. The evolution of Polish communist government policy is reflected in relation to Ukrainian population of Poland, its influence is found out on the development of national and cultural life of Ukrainian minority. Position of Ukrainians in Poland is described after an action "Visla". In the process of implementation of its main task of domestic policy - the transformation of Poland in the state of one nation - the Communist government evicted Ukrainian population to the western and northern regions of the republic with the aim of social base destruction of Ukrainian national underground and further assimilation of Ukrainians. It is proved that the action "Visla" became the beginning of a new stage in life of Ukrainian society in Poland. It was difficult for Ukrainians to adapt themselves in new residences, first of all, as a result of cultural differences(different language, customs, methods of farming, observance of holidays in accordance with a Gregorian calendar) and as a result of negative stereotype of "Ukrainian - banderovets" coded in public consciousness by the government.
