Zbyr I. The collection “Pokuttya” by O. Kolberg: Creation Background, Folklore Genres, Reception.

The academic thesis is the holistic approach to O.Kolberg’s collection “Pokuttya”. It is deep rooted into the history of the Ukrainian folklore studies. The history of the collection creation is traced within the frames of O.Kolberg’s published materials and manuscripts. Its genre and thematic framework is researched as well as the ways and methods of collection compiling. The unique folklore records are characterized in the research. Pokuttya is viewed within the context of integral Ukrainian folklore tradition. The reception of the collection in the scholarly world is highlighted. The collection influenced dramatically the development of the Ukrainian folklore studies at the end of XIX – at the beginning of XX century.
