Essay

The dissertation is dedicated to investigation of mineral composition of stale tailings from the Severnaya Mine named after V.A.Valyavko, to studies of morphological features of mineral individuals and aggregates, to definition of regularities for mineralogical zonality of a technogene ore deposit, to variability of grading coarseness, to extent of metallic and non-metallic minerals exposure in the stale tailing and basing on this - to develop mineralogical reasoning for a rational technology of stale tailings re-concentration aiming at high-quality iron ore concentrate production. Results of mineralogical-technological experiments using magnetic and gravity separation machinery are given in the dissertation. It is shown that mineralogical peculiarities of technogene iron ore raw material stipulate higher effectiveness of gravitational technology comparing with magnetic one. The usage of the former one has allowed to receive concentrate having Fe content of 64-66 mas.%. Subsequent to the results of mineralogical-technological studies a technogene deposit of standard iron ore row material has been outlined within limits of the Northern part of the tailing pond. In accordance with the obtained data a mineralogical-technological classification for stale tailings has been made up and a geological-technological map of the technogene iron ore deposit of the tailing pond has been compiled.
